In my quest to soothe, brighten, and refresh my post-baby skin, I came up with this freshening toner recipe. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and have definitely noticed a difference. My favorite thing about it, though is how soothing it is!!! After applying harsh cleansers, it’s so nice to feel something cooling.
To make your own cleanser, combine 1 cup of green tea (cooled), 1/2 cup of water, 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and 3 tablespoons of lemon juice. Put the liquid into a cute bottle, and apply daily using a cotton ball. If you prefer, you could put the toner into a spray bottle and mist your face after each washing. I have been using the toner approximately 2 times each day – in the morning and in the evening. But, there’s no harm in using it more or less.
*Keep your toner refrigerated; it should last a few weeks.
I did do my research before coming up with this toner, and here are the benefits to the various ingredients …
Green tea is well-known to draw out skin impurities, shrink large pores, and give you a healthy glow. But, did you also know that green tea has been shown to neutralize damage done by exposure to UV rays? A few other reasons to use green tea on your skin is to rejuvenate skin cells, fight inflammation, sooth acne, and lighten skin. I knew I loved green tea! Check out this article for more information.
Apple cider vinegar is effective for treating lots of skin problems: warts, pimples, acne, etc; but, it can also help your skin look younger and feel smoother. The most important benefit of apple cider vinegar is the ability to restore pH balance. Learn more about apple cider vinegar for skincare here.
The citric acid in lemon juice acts as an exfoliator and astringent which helps to dry out pimples. It’s also a natural skin whitener – reducing redness. All-in-all lemon juice can diminish scars and age spots, heal acne, exfoliate, brighten, and fight wrinkles! Learn more here.
I’ve had great results with this toner, but some of these ingredients can cause stinging or allergic reactions. As with any homemade skincare remedy, please be careful and test it on a small area.
