This year I have decided not to have an advent calendar with candy. As much as I absolutely love getting a little chocolate every day, I thought the little man would really enjoy taking part in an assortment of winter & Christmas activities! It was hard to decide what method I wanted to use. We could either make a numbered calendar and pre-plan all the activities, or I could have activities that little man could pick out of.
I would have used the second option, but we have an adorable line of numbered felt slippers that are perfect to store activity slips in. This is also the easiest option for planning activities. I am SO excited to start this new tradition with my little man and husband! One of the best parts of this advent activity, in my opinion, is that every year it’ll be different; as little man gets older we can make the activities work for his age, and if we have another child we can mix fun things for young’uns and school-age children, we can also keep some of the same things {like decorating cookies} every year.
We purchased our advent slippers, but there are some great ideas out there for making your own advent calender. Here are a few that I love. They would be easy to make at home and perfect for storing activity papers.
*I know it’s a little late in the season to be posting about advent calendars, but this would also be a cute idea to use as a “12 Days of Christmas” idea.
