This lovely piece of furniture was a Goodwill find – it came in two pieces: this bottom section, and a top hutch with glass doors. {The hutch re-vamp will be coming soon}. After the success of some of my other Goodwill finds, the husband insisted that we snatch this up ASAP and do something fun and crafty with it. Not willing to pass up a bargain & a project I said of course, and we took this baby home.
My goal was to do something simple but exciting. We don’t have much in our dining room as of yet which really gave me the ability to do whatever my heart desired. I decided to go with my favorite spray paint for the majority of the cabinet body, and a beautiful blue chalk paint for the doors and drawers.
Tools & Equipment:
Electric sander
Wood filler
Paint brush
Spray-on primer
{Rustoleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover Primer in White}
Spray paint
{Rustoleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover Satin in Heirloom White}
Chalk paint
{Annie Sloan paint in Aubusson Blue}
Oil rubbed bronze spray paint
1. Remove the doors, drawers, and hardware from the main body of the cabinet. If yours is anywhere near as dirty as ours was, you’ll need to thoroughly wipe it down with a wet cloth. Use the wood filler to fix any imperfections, and then lightly sand the whole base down.
2. Prime & paint the cabinet according to the paint can instructions. Mine took approximately 2 coats each of primer and paint. Let the paint cure completely {24-48 hours}.
3. While the cabinet is curing, paint the doors & drawers. I highly recommend Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for any furniture painting projects you have. It’s the greatest stuff: beautiful, durable, and the best part? You don’t have to sand or prime the furniture before you paint!!! I must admit that I have yet to use the Annie Sloan wax over the chalk paint; I really love the look of the paint without it.
4. Next, take your hardware and paint it oil rubbed bronze, instantly turning your piece from a dated eyesore to a modern beauty.
5. After every piece dries, put it all back together and bring it into your space. Voila you have a fun, new piece!
What furniture re-vamp have you finished recently?
