Ah motherhood … the most difficult (and rewarding) job there is. No one told me beforehand how much of a struggle parenting would be. It is a round-the-clock commitment that often doesn’t result in much “mommy time.” After almost seven years of putting my all into my my children, I’m starting to realize how important it is to occasionally focus on myself. Not just for me, but for my kids! My goal is simple: strive for balance in everything. That includes doing my best to eat real, simple foods (without compromising on taste).
I know that in the long run, turning the spotlight on myself will make me happier. Which will be a benefit to my children as well. But let’s face it: we all have THOSE days. You know what I’m talking about. You get to school late because the two year old “can’t walk” anymore and plops himself down on the front steps. Or maybe you did everything right, but for some inexplicable reason it takes you 30 minutes to move half a mile! And of course there’s always that afternoon when the kids just absolutely cannot get along.
It’s those days – when you feel like popping open some wine at 3:30 in the afternoon that balance is the only way to stay sane. Oh, and did I mention, that looks different for everyone? Sometimes I feel like the whole day is going to Hell in a hand basket… And the last thing I want to do is cook dinner. But part of focusing on myself and staying balanced isn’t to kick my feet up and order a pizza. It’s giving myself a break from preparing an elaborate meal, and heating up a SMARTMADE™ by Smart Ones® Mexican-Style Chicken Bowl!
SMARTMADE™ has done an incredible job of creating delicious meals just like I would make, using some of my favorite pantry staples. They introduce real flavor with grilled meats and roasted veggies – a tasty combination that I’m always up for. Plus, I know that when I can’t even think about making Grilled Sesame Beef and Broccoli, they’ve got it covered.
Knowing that SMARTMADE™ has my back with these new meals (including ingredients I can actually pronounce) is so freeing. Of course my goal is to cook healthy, well-rounded meals for my family as often as possible. But this new system of balance is teaching me not to sweat the small stuff. Oh … and to appreciate a break when I can get it!
What is your favorite way to keep a balanced life? Do you love going for a run in the crisp Winter weather? Or maybe you just love to go shopping alone? How about once a month date night?
