Some of you might remember from my Baby To-Go Bag tutorial that I have a dear friend who is having a baby. Well, spoiler alert, she already had him. His birth story is pretty crazy, and I won’t go into too many details, but he was born just about a month early, completely unexpectedly. Around 9:30 one evening, my friend left our home because she was feeling exhausted. By 2:30 that morning, little Gabe was born! No joke, I didn’t believe when I heard…it was crazy! At the time, I was working on a crib skirt for them that didn’t get finished before Gabe was born because I thought I still had a month to go!
One of the issues I noticed when my little guy was born, was the problem of bed skirt bunching as he grew and we lowered the mattress. In an effort to solve this problem for my friends, I created this easily adjustable bed skirt. It can also be no-sew if you’d like!
Measure the width and height of each side of your crib.
*A little secret is that you can leave the back of the crib plain if it’s against a wall. It saves money and time!*
My crib skirt measured approximately 52″ x 15″ in the front and 23″ x 15″ for each sides. I made the skirt in three separate sections.
To keep it incredibly simple you could just sew three rectangles of fabric to fit your measurements. For a bit of flair, I added a panel of coordinating fabric to the ends of each rectangle.
If you wanted to keep this project no-sew, just use iron-on hemming tape to create your rectangles instead of sewing.
Now is where the fun part comes in! Cut strips of ribbon about 15″ long {I cut 20 pieces}. These matching ribbons will be the way you attach the skirt to the crib. Using two ribbons per tie, attach the ribbons to the top of each rectangle at regular intervals. For the long front panel I used eight ribbons, making four ties, and each of the sides had three ties. You may need more or less depending on the size of your fabric panels. The easiest way to attach the ribbons is to use iron-on hemming tape to adhere the ribbons to the inside of the crib skirt.
Now, all you need to do is tie the skirt to the crib. It’s incredibly easy, and when you need to move the mattress down, simply adjust the ribbon ties. Voila…no crib skirt bunches!
Too cute! I love the fabric you chose! My baby is 21 and there is no need for a crib skirt. One day not too far off though!
I would love it if you would share this and any other crafts for DIY projects at the In and Out of the Kitchen Link party! I know there are others who would love to see it!

Thank you! I have recently discovered how many amazing fabrics can be purchased on Etsy…that’s where I found the car fabric.
Very cute! love the fabric! I made a no sew crib skirt for my son’s nursery, but I never thought of making it adjustable–I just figured I’d have to take it off when we drop the crib….but I bet I can use this idea to retrofit adjustibility somehow :)
Love this, very cute, and wonderful adjustment tips! Thank you greatly!
I love this idea! I just had a question on how much fabric you used for this project? Is a yard sufficient or would I need more? Thank you!
It depends on the size of your crib and the height of the mattress. For this specific skirt, the front panel had to be 52″…so if you have similar measurements and want one continuous piece you’ll need more than a yard. For most cribs you should be able to get away with 1.5 yards.
