I have a huge announcement to make! The husband’s brother & his wife just adopted an adorable baby girl!!! It has been a long and harrowing process for them to get to this point {one day I’ll tell you the story} and I am just over the moon excited for them. And who has the honor of throwing her first party?! You guessed it…I do! Next week we are having a Sip & See -slash- Adoption Party open house so family and friends can meet the cutie-pie.
I mean…
Holy cuteness!
Anyway…back to the topic at hand.
The party theme is Pink Safari and I’ve picked pink, mint, and yellow as the theme colors; elephant is the featured animal. Most of the decor for the party is going to be DIY stuff {of course} – and I’m going to share it all with you!
The first thing I have completed so far are some adorable Tulle Poufs. They are all over Pinterest and I think they’re the cutest, so I had to make some. I actually tried to make a few tissue paper poms first, and they just weren’t working for me {I must be weird}. These tulle poufs came sort of out of necessity for me and I’m SO glad they did!
It’s super easy to make these, and they’re not as expensive as I first thought – not any more than tissue paper ones at least.
What You’ll Need:
Spool of Tulle {I got 3 poufs out of one spool}
Fabric Covered Floral Wire
Scissors
Scrap Piece of Cardboard
Fishing Line
Start out by wrapping your tulle around the piece of cardboard. I didn’t have a set number of times to wrap, I just went until I couldn’t really see the cardboard under the tulle.
*I have yet to officially test this theory, but I believe the size of the cardboard is what determines how large the pouf is.
Then, carefully slide the tulle off the cardboard. Using the floral wire, secure the center of the tulle {so it looks like a bow}. I am actually thinking of keeping some as bows to use for decorations. How adorable would that be? Perfect for a little girl party, or even a little manly man party as bow ties. *eek so cute*
When the floral wire is secured, cut the ends of the bow so they are no longer connected. I know this sounds a little bit confusing…it’s difficult to explain. I took my finger and pushed it through the center piece of tulle then slid the scissors in. Here’s a picture to help make sense of it.
Don’t worry about your cuts being perfect, you won’t notice when it’s all said and done. I found that with the tulle being bunched up it made the cuts almost look scalloped. It was a really cool, unexpected surprise!
From here on out it’s just a lot of fluffing to get the look you’re going for. The easiest method for me was to take one piece of tulle and pull it towards the wire, then take one piece on the other side and pull it towards the wire. It was a lot of back and forth, but this helped the tulle from staying bunched together.
I love how fluffy and puffy these turned out! When I tried to make the tissue paper poms I couldn’t get that volume I was looking for. The tulle is perfect and really gives an ethereal look to the decor, but the color adds some fun and whimsy.
I’m not ready to hang mine yet, but when the time comes all you have to do is loop a fishing line through the floral wire and hang from the ceiling…easy peasy!
Keep an eye out for more updates on the Pink Safari party…I can’t wait to show you the finished product next week!
