I’ve mentioned before how awesome my in-laws are…they always acquire great finds for me to re-vamp: toy storage furniture, school desk, and now this great wooden spool.
It’s so hard to find sturdy, wooden spools like this around; so I, of course, had them snatch it up for me! In order to keep the rustic nature of the piece, I simply sanded the whole thing down and coated it with polyurethane.
The poly really brought out the blue letters stamped onto the top of my spool-turned-table.
Isn’t it just gorgeous?!
In the center of the spool, the wood was lighter and less worn than the top and bottom, and the look just wasn’t doing it for me. That’s when I decided to take the left-over Dutch Boy paint from my minted desk re-vamp and give my table a pop of color.
I am officially in love! I’ve put this table in my office / craft room to give me a beautiful workspace that is separate from my desk area.
Oh, and I have to brag a bit here about how I got this beast of a table up to the second floor from the garage all by myself. That was about the time the hubs said he would never want to make me angry. *tee hee*
I get giddy every time I walk by my office and see this view. The spool just adds a great dash of rustic whimsy to my space, and I love that I can call it all mine. {Just wait until you see what else I have planned for the space}!

Wow! I’m really impressed. Not that you don’t impress me normally with your craftiness, but this is really, superbly cool!!!! I absolutely love it.

Looks great! I love these old spools. When I was little, we would use them as picnic tables. I’m still looking for one to re-vamp! Very jealous of yours! I love the blue you used on the column.

What a fun idea! They just did a bunch of electrical work in our apartment, and there were five empty spools by the time they were done, so I grabbed one! I have some half-formed ideas about turning it into a bookcase. Possibly. But I love your table, and the painted center part is great!

Love this! Question for you — when you polyurethaned it did you go ahead and put that on top of the steel bolts as well? I am just getting ready to do this and am not sure how I should the the bolts.
Sam says
I used the spray-on stuff, so I did just go over the bolts with it!
