We aren’t much of a Halloween family. Don’t get me wrong, we love to dress little man up and trick or treat; but as far as decorating for Halloween goes…I’m just not that into it. I much prefer to decorate for Fall/Thanksgiving. However, this year I have been seeing so many adorably spooky Halloween decorations that I just had to get in on the fun.
I keep reading about ghost wreaths and they always have cutesy ghost decor on them, but I wanted something different…then it hit me!
*tee hee* This cracks me up every time I see it!
So, basically, my ghost ‘wreath’ is a bow hung on a wreath hook. Um…genius {if I do say so myself}.
This is so great because not only is it the easiest wreath I’ve ever made, and it gives me the giggles, but it’s super easy to put together. I also love how it moves with the wind, so it’s almost like there is a ghost in there. I’m also thinking of adding some spooky lights to it when Halloween gets closer…awesome, no?
All you need to make your very own ghost wreath is some deco mesh, floral wire, and paper.
To make the sign, I used some FREE fonts found on FontSpace: Trinigan FG & A Dripping Marker. Of course, the sign is optional, but I thought it would be a good way to explain what it is while staying in the spirit of Halloween.
I found my sparkly orange deco mesh at Michael’s. It was $9.99 originally, but with my 40% off coupon it was around $6. This might seem a little steep for glorified ribbon, but it is necessary to make a bow this size because of how sturdy it is. And I’d say $6 isn’t to bad for a wreath! ;-)
Here’s where I would normally give you a tutorial on how to make this bow…however, I found the directions here at Mardi Gras Outlet and they were great. I couldn’t improve it any, so check out their site for instructions. {Trust me, this bow is super easy, don’t be intimidated}!
As you can see from the photos, I threaded my wreath hook through the center loop of the bow. If you don’t have a wreath hook, or want something a little more ghost-like, tie fishing line around the center of your bow and hang from the top of your door. This will give the illusion of a a floating ghost wreath!
It might even be fun to paint the edges of your bow with glow-in-the-dark paint, so when trick or treaters come to visit your house, they’ll be able to see it in the dark!
So, my ghost ‘wreath’ might be our only Halloween decor this year, but it brings a smile to my face every time I see it!
If you make your own ghost wreath, feel free to send me your photos…I’d LOVE to see them! sam {at} atkinsondrive {dot} com
