I don’t think I have mentioned yet my love for IKEA. I really don’t think words could accurately describe the affinity that I have for this store…
I first heard of IKEA years ago when my mom & step dad went to visit my Grandma in Atlanta; they got to shop at this amazing warehouse-like store that has everything you could imagine at amazingly affordable prices. I was young at the time so I honestly didn’t care much about it. As I got older I became interested in going, but an 8 hour trip to Atlanta just to go shopping was kind of a crazy idea.
After the husband and I moved to California, I found we had an IKEA 45 minutes away from us {oh JOY}! We had absolutely no furniture to our names…{seriously, our apartment had a $20 Target TV stand, a computer monitor TV, and a mattress on the floor} so we decided to go on our first IKEA outing ever! I have never been the same.
Most of the furniture we purchased in California was from IKEA – until we splurged on ‘real’ couches & and ottoman from Bassett {but rest assured we didn’t get rid of our IKEA couch}. However, in the move to Indiana several pieces broke and we have been forced to replace them. Unfortunately, the closest IKEA location to us is a 90 minute drive without traffic :-( . In over 2 years of living here, we have only been to IKEA a handful of times.
Lucky for me, the husband had this last week off and we got to make an IKEA trip! I made sure to take pictures of some of my favorite products & ideas…
In one of their display rooms, they took a sheer panel curtain {I’ve seen them for as little as $4}, cut it & framed it…adorable! In the same room they took another panel and used it as a table runner. I love creative ideas like this that find unique ways to use ordinary products.
Um, hello…a large, full-length mirror for only $50?!?! Thank you IKEA for amazing, affordable products!
Every time I look at this kitchen cart it makes me sad. Why sad you ask? Because we were supposed to grab one on our way out and forgot. I got so excited about all the other fun stuff, that it completely slipped my mind. This was the perfect storage solution for the little man/guest bathroom…toilet paper, clean towels, bath toys – the possibilities were endless. Needless to say, if you have an Ikea close to you, pick this cart up… The gray one was already temporarily sold-out!
I almost passed by this table…but at the last minute it caught my eye. How perfect for a behind-the-couch console table? I have been looking for something similar to this one, built by John & Sherry over at Young House Love.
Obviously, theirs is one of a kind, but I think the IKEA table painted a dark color would do the trick nicely.
If these babies weren’t so pricey I would have snatched them up, along with the matching storage boxes. It’s hard to take the plunge on a $6.50 magazine holder when there are plain white ones for 5 for $2 across the aisle. But, I think it’s safe to say you will soon be seeing a Burlap Magazine Holder tutorial by Atkinson Drive…
This picture didn’t quite capture the cuteness of this lamp: it looks like a paint can! I’m not 100% sure that’s what they were going for, but it’s adorable none-the-less. I just love that you can customize it to your room with stickers or any items of your choosing.
The husband and I talked about getting a real ‘big boy’ {aka toddler} bed for little man; it’s really hard to pass up a $50 bed! In the end we decided to hold off since we have one of those 3-in-1 cribs that we already made into a toddler bed. But little man is awfully cute laying there don’t you agree?!
These containers aren’t anything new for IKEA…I know that because I own them – purchased some last time we went shopping. Then why would I post them here? Well…I took this picture because, for the life of me, I cannot get the darn things back the way they were packaged & now I will never forget! But, seriously, these are an amazing deal!
If I would have known IKEA makes glass spice jars for only $1 each I would have done a spice-cabinet inventory before I left home!!! So sad that I didn’t think of it, but now I know for our next shopping adventure. I am definitely going to get some Martha Stewart chalk board labels & get organizing {next time}!
I love that IKEA is getting into the entertaining stuff – I mean where else can you find a 3-tiered appetizer platter for $15? No where! And I love the fact that it’s clear, so you can use it for anything.
IKEA also has such great kids stuff! I almost bought this $15 art easel; but since I’m trying to conserve space, we went with a table-top paper roll holder for only $7!
Okay – best $15 I’ve ever spent! The little man LOVES this circus tent and it’s adorable in his playroom. He’s already made it a ‘digger’ truck garage, kitchen, and tool shed. {All thanks to the new-to-me felt food & tools at IKEA}. Imaginary play is so wonderful for kids, so it makes me really happy to know that little man is coming up with these great play ideas.
I really feel like you can’t beat IKEA for rugs. We have been in desperate need of some front door & laundry room mats! I have not been able to find exactly what I want in the 6 months we’ve been in our house…until now. I am obsessed with the detail the herringbone pattern brings to the front entryway, and the other mat is so sturdy which is perfect for our laundry room floor {our main home entrance}.
This is a some-day picture for me. Who doesn’t want a closet like this – I mean, really.
I believe this closet system cost about $1200…I haven’t done the math, but I’m guessing that’s cheaper than even the stuff from some of the major hardware stores. It’s so beautiful, and one day I hope that my closet will have a chandelier, a sitting area, and amazing shoe storage!
Thanks IKEA for a wonderful day full of shopping and dreams {and the free tea}!
