Every parent with little children (boys especially) knows how important it is to have a great vacuum on hand at all times. I’m pretty sure my boys have gotten some under the table job figuring out new ways to get my floors messy! The sad thing is, I love how vacuuming makes my house look – all fresh and clean – but I hate getting the vacuum out, unwinding the cord, plugging it in, vacuuming a small area then moving the cord somewhere else, etc. etc. Then at the end I have to re-wind the cord and store everything. Talk about a pain … and when you have to do this two or more times a day, the routine can get a bit tiring. On occasion I may be known to just leave broccoli crackers on the floor for a day just so I don’t have to deal with it all. *blush* But no more.
That’s right … I have discovered cordless vacuuming and I’ll never go back! When I told my friends and family that I was getting the chance to try out a new cordless vacuum from Hoover, they all thought I was crazy. First reactions? “They don’t have great suction … It won’t last long … They can’t do the job of a plug-in machine” and the list goes on and on. But that’s the point of having someone test products, right? To see the good, the bad, and the ugly and to honestly report their findings. Well I’m happy to say that I’ve already turned at least two of my family members on to the Hoover Air Cordless Lift Upright Vacuum!
The Benefits to Going Cordless
What’s so great about this cordless wonder you ask? Like I said before, my least favorite part about the vacuuming process is actually getting it out and dealing with the cord: it gets in the way, it never reaches far enough, the baby pulls it out of the plug (you understand I’m sure). We live in a small 1200 sq ft apartment right now, and with our old vacuum I could only reach the main living areas and parts of the bedrooms; which means that the bedrooms rarely got the floors cleaned because – well I’ll just come out and say it – I’m lazy. So, the fact that with my new Hoover I can just pull the vacuum out of the closet and get right to cleaning (and cleaning the whole house) means the world to me. The thought of never having to plug a vacuum in
again honestly makes me giddy!
But besides that, the Hoover Air Cordless Lift does just as good of a job as our old name-brand fancy pants vacuum; it may actually be better at picking up! Plus it’s smaller – therefore easier to store – and it’s quieter which is great for nap time cleaning. All of this is amazing, but the thing that puts this cordless vacuum over the top for me is that the canister comes off with a push of a button and turns into a portable vacuum! What?! Recently my family got a new car that cost way more than I would ever like to admit, and I am a stickler about keeping it clean. I love that I can just take my Hoover outside and do a quick vacuum whenever I need; no cord to drag with me, no bulky garage unit to deal with, no going to a car wash to pay a few bucks, nothing. It’s so nice.
The Drawbacks
I will admit that the first few times I used my Air Cordless Lift, I was a bit apprehensive. During each cleaning session I had to change out the battery once (Hoover gives you two so you can rotate them out). Since we are in such a small place, I was figuring most people would have to change the battery two or three times – which would require buying more. Though now, I am thrilled to announce that the battery life has significantly increased. I’m no science whiz, so I can’t tell you why … but now the battery packs seem to be lasting me about three whole-house vacuums: that’s the equivalent of 3600 square feet!
Why I’ll Never Go Back
Now I know you’re intrigued about this possibility of having a cordless vacuum solution that actually works – am I right? Well Hoover has a whole series of cordless products: two upright vacuums, a two-in-one stick / handheld vacuum, a hardwood floor cleaner, and a small handheld. All of these cleaners take the same LithiumLife batteries so you’ll never run out of power! And just because I figure a few of you are still skeptical about the amazing Windtunnel 3 technology that Hoover uses to lift and remove dirt, I thought I’d share this awesome clip with you. I may or may not have dumped some goldfish on the ground and let my oldest son walk on them to grind them into the carpet just for this video (do not try this at home because your toddler will think that it’s ok to dump goldfish on the floor – #momfail).
DIY Carpet Refresher
Just as a bonus I wanted to share my DIY Carpet Refresher recipe with you to make your cordless experience that much better! To start you’ll need two cups of baking soda and 15-25 drops of your favorite essential oils (I love lavender, but it’s sometimes nice to mix it up with a “fresh” oil blend). Put the baking soda in a jar with a shaker top – mason jars are my favorite thing to use. Drop in your essential oils and use a knife to mix it together. Shake the concoction onto your carpet and let it sit a few minutes before vacuuming it up.
