The husband and I have been searching and searching for a suitable hamper since we’ve moved into our house & everything is either too small, too ugly or too expensive. I have been adamant about having two hampers {one for dirty clothes & one for lightly-used clothes} so we always get all of our clothes washed on laundry day and don’t have random pieces of clothing lying all over the floor…you know…because they’re “not dirty”.
Thanks to Menard’s having a springtime sale, we got two metal trash cans for only $10 each! Add the cost of spray paint {also on sale}, and these babies came out to a whopping $25 for the pair. I could have easily spent that on one tiny hamper at the store!
Equipment:
Metal outdoor trash can
*Behrens Trash Can with Lid, 20-Gallon
2-3 cans of Rustoleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover spray paint
*Painter’s Touch 2X Aerosol
1. Flip the trash can over and start spraying. Don’t worry about painting the bottom, though…no one will ever see it!
2. Spray a second coat while the can is upside down. After it’s dry to the touch flip it over and do a 3rd coat to touch up any areas that were missed. {You could spray the inside, though I opted not to because I like the look of the yellow and silver together}.
3. Let the paint cure before using it.
Enjoy your new prettified, larger-than-life hamper!
