Being in our new house has caused me to re-evaluate my cleaning habits. Keeping up with this place can be quite a chore {cheesy pun intended}, so I’ve started working on a cleaning schedule for myself. I have gotten into a pretty good weekly cleaning habit, but I’m still developing my monthly and quarterly chores. Even though I remember most of my household responsibilities, I work best when I have a to-do list so I can check off my progress and make sure I’m not forgetting anything. Unfortunately, I keep misplacing my printed out schedule!
The Menu Board I created has made me so happy and organized that I have decided to make a cleaning board in the same fashion. The frame I used for the menu was a set of two and I’ve been unsure of what to do with the other frame…this is perfect!
Don’t they look great together? I love this little wall in my kitchen – it really helps keep me organized. There’s no harm in prettying up the kitchen either!
Like I said before, I made the cleaning board very similar to the way I made my menu board. Two pieces of scrapbook paper were the backing for my project, and another piece was used for all of my accents and the envelope. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the letters and border then glued them on using a glue stick. The clothespins were attached using a hot glue gun.
Since I have chores to complete every day as well as chores I finish once per week, I made two columns. The first column is all of my daily chores, while the second is my weekly chores. Please pardon the fact that there’s an empty space for Thursday. I did think ahead about the fact that I only had 10 tiny clothespins, but I totally forgot while I was actually assembling the board. Wednesday & Thursday both generally encompass grocery stuff so the plan was to center my grocery pin between the ‘w’ and ‘t’ – oh well…I’ll just have to get some more clothespins eventually.
This method is great because it allows me to change up the schedule as needed. Since it’s just paper, I can always print something different.
You can see that I have a ‘done’ envelope at the top…not only is it adorable, but it’s perfect to fulfill my need to ‘check’ things off a list. There’s not much better than that feeling of accomplishment – even if you’re just doing housework! Sometimes that’s all it takes to turn your day around :-)
Most everything for this project was already laying around the house, so I spent a total of about $2…but if you were to make this from scratch here’s a general break-down of cost.
Picture Frame – from $8.00 to $ 16
Scrapbook Paper – $.25 to $2.00 {per sheet}
Tiny Spring Clothespins – $4.00
So, assuming you have hot glue & glue sticks….you can make your own cleaning schedule board for $12 – $26. I’d say that’s not too bad!
My cleaning board really has revolutionized my days and I hope this idea can help you stay a little more organized as well!
