Lately we have had quite a few storms around here. I am so not complaining, though – we have been extremely low with our rain levels this year we desperately needed it. We’re still a good 7″ below normal & under water restriction…but the rain lately has been wonderful. Since I haven’t been able to take little man outside for a lot of play, I thought it would be fun to make some new artwork for his playroom ‘Masterpiece’ wall. You know the one I’m talking about – with the playroom printables?
I have somehow lost little man’s paints that I purchased at IKEA, but luckily I had some paint left-over from a few Pink Safari party projects. I don’t know what it is right now, but I am obsessed with this color combination of robin’s egg blue, pink, and yellow.
My inspiration for this project was some valentine artwork I saw on Pinterest by As Time Flies.
How adorable is she? They took a large piece of paper, wrote the word ‘LOVE’ with painters tape, and let her go wild finger painting!
Since I already have printable quotes up on the ‘Masterpiece’ wall I thought it would be fun to go with something more modern/abstract/geometric. So, I put painter’s tape on the pages in random stripe patterns.
Of course, the first thing little man did when he was all set-up was to try and eat the paint…he only did it once. It didn’t take him long to figure out it wasn’t edible – unlike the paint in this project. Boy he loves getting paint all over his hands!
Unfortunately, he wasn’t too into painting that day – Daddy was home and he just wanted to spend time with him. Though I got a good 15 – 20 minutes out of him, the paper didn’t quite get finished the way I was hoping.
But you get the idea that I was going for. If your kid is the kind who likes to cover every inch of the paper, this is for sure the project for you!
There was a little bit of tearing when I pulled the tape up on the last picture. I’m guessing this has to do with the fact that he really wet that spot of the paper with paint…so the paper lost its strength? At least when it’s hung in the frame you can’t hardly tell…in fact if I didn’t tell you about it first, I bet you wouldn’t even see it!
The nice thing about using acrylic crafting paint is that it dries really fast!
Here’s little man’s abstract finger paintings displayed on his ‘Masterpiece’ wall…I love them so much! How bright and fun are they? I especially adore the one on the bottom right because you can see his little hand prints.
I’d love to see your abstract finger paintings – mail them to me: sam {at} atkinsondrive {dot} com and maybe you’ll get featured on this week’s Sunday Special!
Thanks for the link back. We used canvas so the tape didn’t rip anything coming off. I think if you used a cardstock instead of paper it might come off a bit easier without ripping but still be thin enough to frame.
I love the idea of a masterpiece wall, we are just getting our playroom started in our new house and I think that is a great idea.
Thank you so much for the advice! I’ll have to try that next time!
