My heart is SO happy with the arrival of warm, Spring weather! I don’t even care that it’s supposed to rain all week…the warm weather is fine with me! This weekend I bought some yellow ranunculus flowers to plant in my wine barrel planter by our mailbox. I LOVE them…ranunculus have long been a favorite of mine, and the yellow brings so much life to the yard! We haven’t gotten a chance to hook up all of the hoses for watering yet, so I needed a quick way to water the flowers.
I keep a few vintage mason jars on the kitchen windowsill, so I grabbed one and filled it up with water. As I was dumping the water over my beautiful new flowers, I thought it would be a fun idea to turn the mason jar into a watering can. The vintage zinc lid was replaced with a new lid, and using a nail, I hammered several holes into the lid of the jar.
After several tries, I found a layout of the holes which keeps airflow and good water pressure. See the photo above to get an idea of how to punch the holes. Now all you have to do is fill up the jar and get watering!
One of the things I love about this is that if you have mason jars in your everyday decor, you can disguise the watering can. It’s perfect for indoor plants or flowers on the patio. You could even wrap the jar with jute or a cute ribbon.
If you want the look of a vintage mason jar, but don’t know where to find one, check out the Ball Jar Heritage Collection.
A Mason Jar Watering Can would be great in a gift basket with a few seeds, some gardening gloves, and other fun gardening accessories!

What a excellent idea. I wish I was that creative and smart when it came to things like that. Never thought of a gift idea like that before.
Thank you! My mom is an avid gardener and always has house and patio plants. This made me think of her for Mother’s Day. It’s such a simple, but useful gift.
I love this idea! I won’t leave my little plastic watering can out cause it just looks tacky but these are so pretty. Thanks for sharing. Visiting from A-Z. Have a great week!
Oops Wanda again. Need to give credit where credit is due. Found you at House on the Way! ;-)
Thanks for visiting! I totally agree with how *ick* plastic watering cans can look! I love that this just fits right into my everyday decor…I don’t even think most people would notice that it’s for watering.
This is such a great idea! My old copper watering can sprang a leak (or three), and this would make the perfect replacement. Love the gift basket idea, too!
What a great way for your decor to be functional as well – had to pin this one. Love Mason jars, and love to use them for different things.
What a great idea! I love that you can keep it full with water but works as decor too! How clever! I would Love to have you share at my link party going on!
Great idea! My kids would have fun with that!
I’m visiting from http://www.artistic31mama.com and the Mom’s Monday Mingle. I’m one of the co-hosts this week and am so glad you could join us! :-) I’m following via all your social media. :-)

This would be so great to give my kiddos when they want to help me water (but I don’t want a gallon of water in each flower pot :) Thank you so much for sharing at Pretty Things this week, hope to see you again tomorrow night!

How super timely! I was debating whether it was worth spending money on a small watering can for my indoor box when I came across your site. Found an old pasta sauce jar (all my masons are in use!) and after a few holes it works perfectly. Thank you!
Ooh that’s awesome – I’m glad it worked for you! :-)
Great idea! Thank you for sharing at Rustic Restorations Weekend!
Aw, this is super cute!!! I love the pictures you took with the water drops – awesome!
So cuteI was thinking the same thing as Tanya above. Such a great idea for my little boy to help me water (not flood!) the flowers.
