During a recent run of thunder storms, I was hard-pressed to find something exciting to occupy little man’s time. After doing some research on Pinterest, I thought it would be fun to have a goop play day. Using a standard oobleck “recipe,” I mixed up 1/4 c. of corn starch and 1/4 c. water. I thought the mixture was too thick, so I added another 1/4 c. of water and ended up making it too thin.
There was no corn starch left in the pantry, so I added a bit of flour, which thickened up the mixture; it didn’t end up being quite the same as normal goop {with the solid/liquid qualities}…but little man loved it just the same!
My buddy needed a bit of persuasion to get started playing but then it was squishy, gooey and runny…
Ooh – slimy! Just the kind of play little boys like!
Drip, drip, drip…
This was by far some of the best indoor messy play we’ve ever had!
*Beware that with the addition of food coloring this can stain. I would recommend this as “diaper only” play.
I really enjoyed this play “date” little man and I had. At first we had a great time interacting together – to get him more comfortable with how messy goop is. Once he got into it, though, I was free for a good 15 minutes to clean and prep dinner for the day.
It might not have been real “oobleck,” but this was incredible sensory fun anyway and little man didn’t even know the difference! Just goes to show that you don’t always have to do things the “right” way to have fun!
