Readers, I have a big announcement to make…
It’s Fall Pinterest Challenge Time!!!
As you might have guessed…I {heart} Pinterest challenge time! It’s a great way to stop talking about the amazing things we’ve pinned that we’ll for sure do…{at some point}…and DO them!
This season, I’ve chosen to complete this DIY Rope Bowl {originally posted by The Gilded Hare}.
I didn’t actually use rope. I used “cording;” but, the effect is the same. I always try to bring some sort of natural element into a space. To me it helps ground the room, and keeps it from going to far this way or that {does that make sense?}.
I tend to gravitate towards easy projects that don’t take a long time. If I can finish it while watching TV with the hubs at night, then I’m game! This project only requires three things: a glue gun, scissors, and rope or jute. *score*
You’ll need to start by winding the base into a circle. The photo above shows how I started it. Keep winding and gluing until the base is as wide as you’d like your bowl to be. Then start gluing the rope on top of itself to make the bowl walls. Keep it up until you’ve reached the height you’re looking for.
*Please don’t burn yourself while gluing!
To finish it off, double up on the last few rows. Glue the rope to the inside of your bowl so the edge looks finished.
As you can see, I decided to make a kids toothbrush holder for little man’s bathroom! You might remember that I’m going for a nautical theme in there to match his bedroom. It’s not anywhere close to finished, but this rope bowl goes with some of the accents in his room. I’m obsessed now! The plan is to make at least two more bowls at varying widths & heights to store things like cotton balls and q-tips.
And there you have it – my Fall 2012 Pinterest Challenge is complete! I hope you enjoyed!

This is really cute, and I also have no idea how you were able to have the rope in color and the rest of the pic in black and white! Pretty cool!
