My husband is constantly talking about how quickly I can get our house spic-and-span for company. I do have several “secrets” on how to do that, but my biggest tip is to have a regular cleaning schedule {and to stick to it}.
*I’ll have more tips & tricks on how I do a quick-clean for guests later into the holiday season!
Moving into this house caused me a bit of anxiety…I mean how am I supposed to keep up with a house that is more than double what I’m used to?!? But I honestly have no trouble at all, and most of the time find it a joy to keep my house beautiful; not only for myself, my family, and our guests, but as part of leading a Proverbs 31 life and honoring God.
She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Proverbs 31: 17 & 27
Initially, I tried to break the chores down into rooms so I only had one room per day, but there are too many spaces in the house and it just wasn’t working for me. The format I have found to work the best is having a set of chores that are done every day, no matter what. Then my other days are broken into main floor cleaning, laundry, groceries & couponing, and upper floor cleaning.
Here’s a break-down of my cleaning schedule:
Daily Chores
{most of my daily chores are completed in the morning before little man wakes up, to help us start each day fresh}
Do Dishes
Wipe Kitchen Counters
Tidy Main Floor {Put Away Everything}
Make the Beds
Pick-Up Laundry <– someone has a tendency to leave clothes laying around our house…
Take Out the Trash As Needed
*Make sure to wipe the kitchen counters after removing all the clutter. This is my best advice on keeping a kitchen looking nice, don’t wipe down your counters without completely clearing away the clutter first. If you’re adamant about cleaning the counters, you won’t ever have a messy counter top!
Monday {Main Floor}
De-Clutter
Vacuum
Sweep & Mop
Wipe Down Cabinets
Clean Appliances
Deodorize Garbage Disposal *as needed
Disinfect Counter Tops
Clean Stove Top
Dust
Clean Baseboards
Clean 1/2 Bathroom
Organize Play Room
*When I say de-clutter, I mean put everything in its place. This should be a really easy task since that’s what the “Tidy Main Floor” daily chore is all about. It’s just easiest for me to get my cleaning done when there isn’t stuff everywhere. It’s kind of my pre-cleaning routine.
Tuesday {Laundry}
{I am working on my home management binder which will contain different cleaning charts in it: weekly, monthly, and quarterly. In between laundry loads, I use Tuesday to get my monthly chores done.}
Sort Clothes
Wash & Dry
Fold & Hang
Put Away Clothes
Monthly Chores
*Do not let time elapse during laundry loads. It’s best to get them out of the way as soon as possible, so set a timer if necessary. Fold, hang, and put away your clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer so the workload doesn’t get too overwhelming.
Wednesday {Couponing}
Clean Out Fridge
Clip & Organize Coupons
Make Grocery List
*Keep an eye out for my post on couponing – next Homemaker Monday!
Thursday {Groceries}
Get Groceries
Put Away Food
Organize Pantry
Organize Cabinets
Saturday {Upper Floor}
De-Clutter
Wash Sheets
Make Beds
Vacuum
Sweep & Mop
Dust
Clean Bathrooms
Clean Bedrooms
Organize Office
*I have found that washing all of our bed linens every week is a tad bit unnecessary, so I have changed it to every-other week for sheets & duvet covers, but still every week for pillow cases.
I really hope this can help you out with finding a cleaning schedule that works best for you and your household. It might seem overwhelming at first especially Monday and Saturday, but if you keep on your schedule it’s a breeze {and of course feel free to switch your days around to do what works for you}!

To help keep myself organized every day I have made a cleaning schedule board that hangs in my kitchen. See how I made it here. I’ve also created a printable cleaning schedule as a guide: click on the image below to download it. If you’d like a blank template to print, check out my Etsy shop!
